An interactive discussion on the protection of victims of domestic violence was organised in collaboration with the Bar Association of Azerbaijan. 25 legal professionals engaged in informal exchanges about the challenges faced by victims, listened to personal insights and recognised the crucial role they have in identifying and preventing psychological abuse during court proceedings.
The efforts to raise awareness among students at different education levels was emphasised by the Azerbaijani Bar Association, reminding their significant contribution to recent legislative changes regarding free legal aid for domestic violence victims.
Participants called for the criminalisation of domestic violence and a zero-tolerance approach across all levels of society. They committed to continued collaboration aimed at enhancing national legislation.
This event is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence in Azerbaijan.”
