Representatives of the National Bank of Moldova, other regulatory authorities, banking professionals, as well as officials from payment and microfinance institutions gathered to participate in a practical workshop dedicated to risk-based customer due diligence measures and the promotion of financial inclusion for people in vulnerable situations.
The main objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of financial institutions to implement measures in the field of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT), in accordance with EU directives and the principles of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). These standards protect the integrity of the financial system while ensuring that all customers have access to financial services.
The National Bank of Moldova reaffirms that a healthy financial system is built on transparency, accountability, and a deep understanding of customers’ needs - elements that are at the heart of its firm commitment to good governance and the rule of law. A proportionate and well-calibrated approach to risks is the one that ensures both the integrity of the system and the financial inclusion of all segments of the population, thus reflecting the National Bank’s mission to protect citizens and contribute to the strengthening of a stable and fair financial sector.
The workshop created a space for dialogue and exchange of experiences between the main stakeholders and contributed to strengthening cooperation between authorities and supervised entities. It contributed to building a financial system that is both secure and inclusive, and better equipped to respond to current developments and international requirements. This approach supports sustainable economic growth and strengthens social cohesion.
The event was organised within the framework of the project "Strengthening the Anti-Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Regime in the Republic of Moldova," which is part of the European Union and the Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance” (PGG).
