On the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine, the international conference “The Constitution in the Conditions of War and Post-War Reconstruction: Contemporary Challenges and Legal Solutions” took place in Kyiv on 27 June. The event brought together judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, government and judicial officials, legal experts, as well as representatives of European constitutional courts and international organisations.
The conference served as a platform for professional dialogue on the resilience and adaptability of the Ukrainian Constitution in times of war and post-war reconstruction. Participants exchanged national and international experiences in the context of European constitutional values and integration.
The discussions covered a wide range of topics, including the resilience of the constitutional framework during armed conflict, balancing national security and human rights, ensuring legitimate governance in times of crisis, and the role of constitutional principles in post-war recovery and European integration. These issues remain relevant as Ukraine continues its efforts to defend its sovereignty, strengthen democratic governance, and secure a peaceful, European future.
Special attention was given to the Council of Europe’s support for Ukraine and the establishment of the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. This initiative was welcomed as a vital contribution to restoring justice, strengthening the rule of law at the global level, and upholding fundamental legal principles.
The event was organised by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in cooperation with the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, within the framework of the OSCE project “Support to National Stakeholders through Improved Access to Constitutional Justice”.
This event is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme Partnership for Good Governance, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project Support to development of the constitutional justice in Ukraine.
