The Armenian Academy of Justice and the Administrative Court held a discussion on ways to further improve access to justice for women, following the implementation of the mentoring programme for legal professionals in the Eastern Partnership region.
Judges and prosecutors met to take stock of the achievements obtained, particularly the establishment of a regional network comprising over 300 informal gender focal points across judiciaries in the Eastern Partnership countries.
Representatives from the Academy of Justice expressed their commitment to expand the mentoring programme and train additional mentors in the country, through the developed capacities. The benefits of mentoring as a peer-to-peer method for long-term knowledge transfer was emphasised. Soft skills building, such as empathetic communication, are crucial for overcoming cultural barriers to improve access to justice for women, as highlighted in the Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy 2024-2029.
The achievements of 29 Armenian mentors and mentees were acknowledged through the certificates awarded to those that successfully completed the programme.
This activity is part of the European Union and the Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the regional project “Women's Access to Justice: implementing Council of Europe gender equality and violence against women standards”.
