A 24-member group of law enforcement officers and prison staff was certified to deliver human rights based training in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 18-19 April in Sarajevo, through an internal accreditation scheme developed in close cooperation with Ministries of Justice in BiH.
This activity is a multiagency initiative enabling sharing of good practices across the law enforcement sector and standardisation of operational procedures supporting respect for human rights of persons deprived of liberty without adversely affecting security requirements in the custodial environment.
Following an 8-month long train-the-trainers cycle, these police and prison professionals have improved their presentation and communication skills required to competently deliver training programmes based against the Guidelines for dealing with persons deprived of liberty in closed environment to their peers. The core prison staff training team mentored their colleagues throughout this capacity building initiative by sharing their institutional knowledge and lessons learned through previous training experience and ultimately signed off on the accreditation exercise.
This accreditation session for law enforcement officers is a follow up activity to an earlier session which served to renew training accreditations of the BiH prison staff training team. Both teams will continue delivering training programme(s) in joint capacity.
The activity is organised under the Action: ‘’Enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina’’ within the framework of the CoE/EU Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey programme.
