Senior police officers of all four court police(s) in Bosnia and Herzegovina are meeting in Mostar on 17 and 18 May 2018 to discuss implementation of the Guidelines for dealing with persons deprived of liberty in closed environment. The Guidelines provide prevention and human rights protection mechanisms in dealing with apprehended and detained individuals across the law enforcement agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the opening of this coordination meeting, Mr Milorad Novković, President of the Supreme Court of the Federation of BiH, thanked members of the court police for their diligent and hard work. He particularly thanked Delegation of the European Union in BiH and Council of Europe for recognising the importance of court police’s work for the security and safety of the community as a whole. He also underlined the importance of including police officers in the projects aiming to improve protection of human rights.
Daily challenges in the management of persons deprived of liberty such as escorting, assessing risk of suicide and self-harm, protection of personal data, etc are discussed through the prism of CoE and other international human rights standards by senior court police professionals.
The implementation of these Guidelines is part of the Action: ‘’Enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina’’ within the framework of the joint initiative between the European Union and Council of Europe - Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey Action.
