The Emerald Network evaluation process will be kicked-off in 2015.
This evaluation takes the form of a series of so-called Emerald Biogeographical Seminars. A first Seminar objective is to agree on the reference list for species and habitats for each of the countries targeted by the meeting. A second objective is the assessment -at a biogeographical level- of the extent to which the candidate Emerald sites proposed in the countries are sufficient to ensure proper conservation of habitats and species listed in Resolutions No. 4 (1996) and No. 6 (1998) of the Bern Convention. The Seminar will also address the further needs for site proposals to complete the Emerald network. Main meeting actors will be national authorities from the targeted countries, national NGOs from the nature protection sector, independent experts and the Bern Convention Secretariat.
The first Emerald Biogeographical Seminar, which will target Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, will take place in Tbilisi on 27 – 29 May 2015.
