Emerald biogeographical Seminar for bird species for Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia

Tbilisi, Georgia 1-2 December 2016

The Bern Convention Secretariat organised the 4th and final Emerald Network Biogeographical evaluation Seminar for 2016 on 1-2 December, in Tbilisi (Georgia). This seminar has also been the last of a series of 6 evaluations which took place in the framework of the EU/CoE Joint Programme "Emerald Network of Nature Protection Sites, Phase II".

In 2013, the Criteria for the evaluation at biogeographical level of the national lists of Emerald sites was updated to include a specific criteria on the evaluation of sites for bird species.  The aim of the seminar was therefore to assess the sufficiency of the proposed Emerald sites in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia for ensuring the long-term survival of the bird species of European importance, according to these Criteria.

The event was open for representatives of national authorities, NGOs, independent scientific experts as well as representatives of the Council of Europe and the European Union.
