Conceptualizing Chiatura’s Industrial Heritage

On 30-31 May Mr. Nikoloz Antidze, the Director General of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia visited Chiatura with Mr. Ott Sarapuu, representative of the leading Estonian architectural company KOKO, inter alia specialized in renovation of industrial architecture. Together with local government representatives and the COMUS team, the guests visited the areas of priority actions identified by the COMUS project, including the formed Pioneer Palace and Park and Cableway #25 as well as other sited promoted in scopes of the project, such as the Manganese enrichment factory PEROF and so called “Tsereteli” mine in the town centre. The representatives of the Georgian Manganese accompanied the visitors to the industrial sites.

Under the co-funding of the National Heritage Agency and Estonian Government, KOKO is to produce the set of recommendations and a proposal for the concept to be presented to the Government of Georgia.
