Integrated classrooms for inclusive education
Specific project’s objectives
- To improve teacher’s skills for understanding pupils at risk and their approach in working with them.
- To establish two integrated classrooms for pupils at risk;
- To equip integrated classrooms with interactive technological means;
- To organize visits of exchanging experiences and further share.
Project’s main activities:
Training teachers for work with pupils at risk
- Participants: at least 30 teachers that teach pupils at risk, whose identification will mark the beginning of the project’s implementation.
- Training programme: It will be selected in consultation with the Teacher’s Development Unit of the Ministry of Science and Technology, since it has catalogue of accredited and licensed training programs, consultations will take place with this unit, and the appropriate training module/program will be selected.
- Lecturers: Training agency will be selected, while necessary logistic prepared
Adaptation of two integrated classrooms
Two ordinary classrooms will be selected and turned into integrated classrooms.
Equipment of integrated classrooms: mobile science lab for chemistry and for physics, two smart-boards, didactic modern means. The equipment is seen as necessity to attract youngsters to organize and establish youth groups and science clubs.
Youth groups and science clubs: activities will be held in integrated classrooms. Pupils at risk are expected to be involved and participate in activities of existing and new established youth and science clubs.
Purpose: Targeted pupils will socialize with other pupils and have improved success. They will be technically and socially prepared, also motivated, for further education. Technological didactic means are very important to create friendly and attractive environment, as enhances the knowledge of pupils, motivates them for further education thus contributing in improving social status of pupils in near future.
Time schedule: twice a week teachers will teach supplementary classes through discourses in integrated classrooms. will be made to use the two classrooms, teachers will ensure participation of pupils, and
Themes of classes: As the teachers will be trained, by expectations, in the field of education for social justice,
Expected topics/subjects are expected to be related to understanding cultural heritage of local people coming from different ethnic backgrounds, introducing peace building concept such as dealing with the past, peer to peer cooperation among pupils belonging to different ethnicities, youth leadership, community based organizing etc.
Experience/best practices exchange
A group of 20 selected pupils at risk and 3 teachers will visit two secondary schools in Tirana, Albania. For about two days of stay, Kosovar pupils will meet at least two school youth groups and school youth clubs in two Tirana secondary schools, which are in similar position/situation and whose pupils are of various ethnic backgrounds such as Roma, rural and disadvantaged neighbourhoods. Pupils will discuss challenges that they face in day-to-day school life. They will share the best practices in overpassing common challenges. This experience will be shared with other pupils of integrated classrooms through discourse. It is expected that pupils from our school will gain ideas for improving performance of student’s school clubs. Teachers and selected pupils from other secondary schools in municipality will also participate in continuous discourses that will be organized in integrated classrooms.
Project’s target groups
- Direct beneficiaries: at least 1500 pupils ad 30 teacher taking part in project activities
- Indirect beneficiaries: over 2000 pupils and over 100 teachers benefiting from experience exchange, other secondary schools who will adapt integrated approach to pupils
