“Mstislav is a drop, fragment of a mirror, which reflects the sun and stars and the whole complex history of Belarus, all our honor and our glory” - Vladimir Karatkevich, Belarusian writer

The heritage of Mstislav highlights the millennial historical past of Belarusian people.  The historical part of the city features ten sites inscribed on the State Register of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus and a number of significant buildings: . among them, there are two archaeological sites: Maiden's Mount (a settlement of the 1st century BCE) and Castle Hill (12th century), as well as the building of the Assumption (Carmelite) and the Jesuit Monasteries (both of the 17th century), Alexander Nevsky's Church (18th century), and the urban stone dwellings of the 19th-early 20th centuries. Mstislav Carmelites' Church has preserved some mid-17th century baroque-style frescoes: "The Seizure of Mstislav by Moscow's troops in 1654" and "The Beating of the Ksjondzs" (Roman Catholic priests), which tell  the tragic history of the city.

Mstislav has good chances to become a developed tourist and cultural center in the east of Belarus. His participation to COMUS will enable the implementation of an effective development strategy , facilitated by local residents mobilization.
