Civil society representatives, young legal professionals and volunteers from Baku and three regions of Azerbaijan, were trained on standards and tools of the Council of Europe promoting equality and non-discrimination.
This training, through a collaborative learning platform for interactive discussions, case analyses, group work on real-world scenarios and exchange of experiences and best practices, provided support to civil society representatives working towards building a more inclusive, diverse and equitable society.
Participants actively engaged in discussing forms of discrimination, the value of ensuring inclusive and participatory society, the prohibition of discrimination under Article 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights, and Article 1 of Protocol No. 12 to the Convention, as well as relevant case law of the European Court of Human Rights, and the role of the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) in enhancing equality at national level. The participants also discussed the role of civil society representatives in promoting equality and non-discrimination, the importance of awareness-raising and educational activities, fostering provision of victim-centred support services to those affected by discrimination and promoting multi-stakeholder cooperation for ensuring equality, and exchanged insights on local initiative undertaken to ensure safe, non-discriminatory, and inclusive environment at schools.
The activity involved inter alia local trainers- civil society representatives engaged under the previous phases of the Partnership for Good Governance in the field of promoting equality and non-discrimination to ensure sustainability of capacity development efforts.
This training is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Promoting equality in Azerbaijan”.
