Training for law enforcement in Armenia on identifying and investigating hate crimes

Police officers, prosecutors and investigators in Armenia have increased their knowledge on how to respond to hate crime more effectively thanks to a two-day training.

The group learnt how to recognise hate motivated incidents; investigate cases more effectively; ensure justice and protection for all individuals; and apply key Council of Europe standards, including the case law of the European Court of Human Rights. The training provided a comprehensive understanding of sensitivity of hate-motivated incidents and violence against minority groups and relating responses.

In addition, the training fostered collaboration and dialogue between law enforcement and civil society. It raised awareness about the prevalence and profound impact of hate crimes on individual victims and communities.

This training was organised in the framework of the Council of Europe project “Promoting Human Rights and Equality for LGBTI persons-IV” and the joint European Union and Council of Europe project “Promoting equality and non-discrimination in Armenia” , as part of Partnership for Good Governance programme, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
