Human rights defenders in Ajara launch Anti-Hate Speech Network

A two-day workshop in Ajara brought together local human rights defenders, activists, and journalists to strengthen their ability to counter hate speech in the region. The training introduced participants to European and national standards and equipped them with practical knowledge.

During the workshop, participants launched the Anti-Hate Speech Network, a sustainable, collaborative local platform to amplify awareness-raising initiatives against hate speech in Ajara. They also identified the main challenges related to hate speech in the region and drafted an Anti-Hate Speech Action Plan. This plan outlines activities to increase comprehension of hatred, prejudice, and discrimination against marginalised communities, while promoting public awareness and sensitisation.

The sessions were organised in co-operation with the Ajara-based NGO ‘’Solidarity Community’’.

The event is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme "Partnership for Good Governance", co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project "Combating Hate Speech in Georgia".
