The project “Support to development of the constitutional justice in Ukraine” held its first technical project committee meeting on 19 February 2024 in Kyiv, Ukraine. Representatives of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the Council of Europe participated in the discussion. The meeting served as a platform to discuss and adopt the Terms of Reference and composition of the Steering Committee, as well as to consider the Project’s workplan and negotiate the scheduling of activities.
“The Constitutional Court of Ukraine will make a significant contribution to the development of constitutional justice in Ukraine based on European standards”, stated Serhii Holovatyy, Acting Head of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
The European Union and the Council of Europe are working jointly in the framework of the Partnership for Good Governance programme to strengthen the functioning of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in line with European standards. Further on, the participants discussed plan of activities for the upcoming semi-annual period and reaffirmed the importance of continuous co-operation.
A delegation from the Constitutional Court of Latvia joined the meeting in the capacity of observers, as it is expected that through this project, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine will exchange on practices with that of a constitutional court in an EU member state.
