A workshop was held in the country’s northern region aiming to enhance the protection of victims of discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes. Participants (57 in total) included legal professionals, police officers and representatives of national authorities working in the field of equality.
The workshop titled “Practical aspects of investigating cases of discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova,“ focused on institutional proceedings, addressed practical aspects of examining, qualifying and documenting cases of discrimination, as well as internal procedures, competencies, and practices for each of the involved parties.
Measures to strengthen the co-operation between the judiciary, the General Police Inspectorate, the Equality Council, the People’s Advocate Office, and the Agency for Interethnic Relations were discussed in order to strengthen the mechanism of victims’ protection in the country, seek collaborative solutions among professionals working in the field of equality and ensure more training opportunities and an open dialogue between law enforcement agents.
The workshop was organised in co-operation with the National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova.
This event is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe in the framework of the project “Combating discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova” and the Council of Europe project “Promoting non-discrimination in the Republic of Moldova”.
