Armenian authorities and civil society strengthen co-operation on hate crime data collection

A training for police, investigators, prosecutors, and civil society representatives from Armenia was held on improving data collection mechanisms for hate crime and discrimination-related cases.

The training helped participants put European standards into practice by working with Armenian legislation and real case examples. Practical challenges were discussed, such as the protection of sensitive data, including cases scrutinised under the European Court of Human Rights case law.

By strengthening the co-operation between relevant state institutions, particularly law enforcement authorities and civil society organisations, the aim is to improve the protection for victims of discrimination, hate crime and hate speech, through co-ordinated and effective responses.

This event is part of the European Union and the Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project Promoting equality and non-discrimination in Armenia
