Representatives of key Azerbaijani institutions visited Sweden to learn how the country coordinates prevention, protection, and prosecution efforts to tackle violence against women.
The delegation included the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Social Services Agency under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the “Clean World” women’s shelter.
Over two days, participants met with the Ministry of Employment’s Division for Gender Equality, the National Centre for Knowledge on Men’s Violence Against Women (NCK), the Swedish Gender Equality Agency, the Swedish Prosecution Authority, and Unizon, the national umbrella organisation for women’s shelters.
Discussions focused on how Swedish institutions work together, assess risk, share information, investigate cases, and ensure quality standards in shelters and support services for women.
Azerbaijani participants expressed strong interest in adapting elements of the Swedish approach to strengthen national responses, especially co-operation between agencies, safe and consistent information-sharing, relevant criminal-law provisions, and structured training for professionals by the NCK.
This activity was organized with the support of Council of Europe and the European Union joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by both organisations, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence in Azerbaijan”.
