Staff of the Representative of the Republic of Armenia before the European Court of Human Rights enhanced their knowledge and skills on the new criminal procedure legislation of Armenia

A one-day workshop on “Selected issues of new Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia” was organised for 18 staff members of the Representative of the Republic of Armenia before the ECtHR on 7 December, in Yerevan. New regulations, provisions and procedural safeguards in the context of Articles 5, 6 and 8 of the adopted CPC were presented and discussed, as well as types of judicial review such as appellate, cassation, special and extraordinary reviews.  

Key presentation on “Important novelties of the new CPC from the perspective of the execution of the ECtHR judgments against Armenia” was delivered by Pavlo Pushkar, Head of Division, Department for the Execution of the Judgments of the ECtHR, Council of Europe. The head of the former Working Group Hrayr Ghukasyan and member of the Working Group Davit Melkonyan, that was tasked to prepare the new Criminal Procedure Code, delivered the sessions of the workshop.

The workshop was welcomed by Maxime Longangue, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan and Liparit Drmeyan, Head of the Office of the Representative of Armenia before the ECtHR.

This workshop was organised in the framework of the project “Supporting the criminal justice reform and harmonising the application of the European standards in Armenia", funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in their Partnership for Good Governance II.
