Police officers and prosecutors trained to raise awareness on hate crime in their institutions in Ukraine

On 21 – 23 October 2021, the last seminar of a long-term training for multipliers from the National Police and the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine on combating hate crime was organised by the European Union-Council of Europe’s project “Strengthening access to justice for victims of discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Eastern Partnership”.

The training seminar concluded the capacity building process starting in June 2021, which included the HELP course on Hate crime and several webinars, as well as this seminar.

Sixteen police officers and prosecutors took part in this project activity, aiming to prepare a core group for each of the groups that can raise awareness on hate crime in their institutions. An important part of the capacity building activity was the development of a curriculum for cascade seminars adapted for mixed groups of police investigators and prosecutors on hate crime. These seminars are expected to be piloted as of 2022.

This activity was organised in co-operation with the National Police of Ukraine, the General Prosecutor’s Office and its Training Centre.

This activity is part of the regional project “Strengthening access to justice for victims of discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Eastern Partnership”, funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in the framework of the Partnership for Good Governance II.
