Key stakeholders from the Republic of Moldova responsible to collect data on hate crimes and discrimination gathered in Chisinau, to discuss the latest developments, main challenges, and further steps to improve the national system of data collection in line with European and international standards and best practices.
Participants highlighted need to establish a platform for cooperation in achieving a more coherent and integrated approach in collecting data. This would ultimately contribute to improvement of the application of the anti-discrimination framework and raising the awareness on existing redress mechanisms to discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes.
The meeting was followed by a training for 42 operators of the Police database organised with objective to improve the documenting and processing information related to bias-motivated offences. Participants unanimous concluded that these activities are very important in ensuring continuous training and keeping up to date the operators in charge with data collection with new developments and providing good practices.
Both activities provided support to national beneficiaries, aiming to improve and harmonise data collection methods on hate crimes, following-up on the co-operation established in the framework of the Partnership for Good Governance programme in 2018.
These events are part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Combating discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova”.
