European standards on hate speech and hate crimes at the centre of training for legal professionals in the Republic of Moldova

Legal professionals from judicial institutions in the Republic of Moldova enhanced their knowledge and understanding of European standards on hate speech and hate crimes through a tailor-made training session. The scope of the activity is relevant to the work of these professionals, ensuring better access to justice for the citizens of the country.

An overview of legal practices when investigating cases of hate speech and hate crimes was provided during the training. Exchanges between participants provided the opportunity to discuss improvement methods of judicial redress in the Republic of Moldova, in line with the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights, the recent Recommendation of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers on combating hate speech and other relevant standards in the field.

The need for more training opportunities, while maintaining an open dialogue and cooperation between actors dealing with hate speech, hate crimes and discrimination was highlighted during this event by the participants.


This event is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework of the project “Combating discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova.
