Representatives of the Council of Europe Office in Baku, convened a meeting with six Azerbaijani Young European Ambassadors (YEAs), students, young professionals and civil society members, who completed cross-regional online training sessions and an in-person training on promoting equality and non-discrimination held in Budapest in January 2024, organised in the framework of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”.
The meeting aimed at promoting exchanges about ongoing activities, receive feedback on the learning process and share with YEAs additional information about the country-specific projects of the Council of Europe in Azerbaijan, including the project “Promoting equality in Azerbaijan” and its component on youth engagement in promoting equality and tolerance.
Ideas for further synergies and coordination in promoting equality and non-discrimination among peers and in local communities were discussed. The YEAs acknowledged the work done jointly by the Council of Europe and the European Union to provide training opportunities, and emphasized the importance of raising awareness among the youth and the general public about the importance and benefits of ensuring tolerance, diversity and inclusiveness. Furthermore, they reiterated strong interest in further enhancing their capacities and sharing knowledge and ideas among peers and to further promote equality and non-discrimination through their work and activities.
