The European Union and Council of Europe Partnership for Good Governance 2019-2021 held its second Steering Committee meeting for Ukraine on 14 December 2020 afternoon. The meeting aimed to present the state of implementation and the results of the Programme and discuss plans for 2021.
The participants had the opportunity to assess the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic on the PGG implementation and to discuss the mitigation measures undertaken by the project teams to address the most urgent needs of the Ukrainian authorities with regard to the domestic reforms in the field of judiciary, combating corruption and discrimination.
One country-specific project is implemented in Ukraine between 2019-2021, with a total budget of 500 000 euros, funded by the EU (80%) and Council of Europe (20%). This project is assisting Ukrainian authorities with strengthening measures to counter money laundering and financing of terrorism in Ukraine.
In addition to the country-specific project, Ukraine is also taking part in four regional projects aimed at fighting against economic crimes, strengthening the profession of lawyers, combating discrimination and facilitating access of women to justice with a total budget of 2.4 million euros.
Andriy Spivak, Law-Enforcement Sector Manager, European Union Delegation to Ukraine, Pilar Morales, Head of the Programming Department at the Office of the Directorate General of Programmes, Council of Europe, and Serhii Saienko, PGG National Coordinator, Deputy Director, EU Regional Policies and Strategies, Directorate General for the European Union at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs as well as Olena Lytvynenko, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine opened the meeting.
