Teachers and youth workers from various regions of Armenia attended a training session that enabled exchanges of ideas on combating hate speech through human rights education. The training promoted Council of Europe tools destined to raise awareness among school children in Armenia on hate speech and its dangerous effects on individuals and the society.
This activity is part of the continuous work that started in February 2021, establishing an online alumni network for exchanges on relevant activities and was continued through two online meetings organised in October 2023, consistently recognising important role of teachers in addressing hate speech and tackling various stereotypes through educational programmes.
Participants of the training acknowledged the importance of informative and practical tools developed by the Council of Europe, available in local language, such: Bookmarks and Manual for educators on hate speech online - educational materials that contain information on background and human rights mechanisms to address, identify and prevent hate speech.
A road map for future activities was agreed upon with participants, showing the importance of the Council of Europe cooperation with teachers and youth workers to enhance their capacities in promoting equality and respect, combatting hate speech and detrimental stereotypes at schools and beyond.
