The project team produced maps indicating all potential Emerald sites selected in the seven project target countries. A special attention is paid to new areas identified by the national Emerald project teams throughout 2014. This is aimed at showing progress in the identification of new suitable areas of high biodiversity value for joining the Network through the project.
Up do date, the Emerald Network in the seven countries represents 1588 sites which cover nearly 600 000 km² or an average of 11.8% of total country coverage The Emerald Network in its current provisional form covers a territory as big as half of the EU Natura 2000 Network which has concluded its terrestrial expansion already.
