Workshops on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities and the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages

The Project secretariat organised a series of workshops on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (FCNM) and the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages (ECRML) for municipal representatives of the 36 selected local self-governments.

The aim of the workshop was to familiarise the local governments with the above mentioned Council of Europe’s treaties, which are the only legally binding instruments for the protection of national minority rights and constitute the two main, not only legal but also inspirational frameworks for the Project “Promoting Human Rights and Minority Protection in South East Europe”.

Additionally, the workshops strived to bridge the gap between the international commitments and the concrete barriers inhibiting the rights of minorities at local level.

The workshops took place in six Beneficiaries of the Project in May and June 2015. One additional workshop will be organized in “the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” in September 2015.
