Conference on Combating corruption in higher education

What are the most effective ways to address corruption, nepotism, plagiarism and other negative phenomena present in the higher education system?

To answer this question, a conference was organised in Pristina, Kosovo* on 19 April to discuss experiences and good practices addressing academic misconduct and ethical standards in higher education.

The Conference entitled “Ethics, Transparency and Integrity in Higher Education – Domestic solutions to global challenges” brought together around 70 participants including experts, academic staff from both public and private universities, students, representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, representatives from NGOs and other stakeholders working in the field.

Keynote speakers included: the Deputy Minister of Education, the Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Kosovo* Office, the Head of the Political and Economic Section of the European Union Office in Kosovo*/EUSR and the Vice-Rector of the University of Pristina.

The conference was organised in the framework of the Horizontal Facility Project “Strengthen integrity and combat corruption in higher education”, a project that has already contributed to the revision of the Law on Higher Education and the inclusion of specific provisions on codes of conduct and ethical standards in higher education.

The conference offered the opportunity to students and academics to discuss the impact of relevant policies and practices on the education system. Policy frameworks supporting the strengthening of a culture of integrity amongst students, academics and senior managers of higher education institutions were also discussed.
