The Moroccan and Tunisian NPMs learn to develop an effective checklist for prison visits

From 3 to 7 July 2017, around 24 members of the Moroccan National Council for Human Rights (CNDH) together with a representative of the Tunisian National Authority for the Prevention of Torture (INPT) attended the third training module on the monitoring of torture and ill-treatment in places of detention.

Through role plays and rehearsals of observations from earlier prison visits, this session introduced the members of the future Moroccan and the Tunisian National Preventive Mechanisms (NPM) against torture to a development of tailor-made checklists for visits. Participants have been able to reflect on and produce exhaustive checklists overseeing key features such as the physical environment of detention, security rules, discipline, and relationships between inmates or prison personnel.
