Mainstreaming good drug prevention practices in Ukrainian prisons

A productive weekend in Kyiv: High-level prison managers, probation specialists and psychologists developed and agreed a practical and detailed action plan on how to mainstream two therapeutic tools in Ukraine’s prisons: Family Conference, and SAVRY, an evidence-based risk assessment methodology. Both tools have been piloted successfully in juvenile prisons in Melitopol and Pryluky with the support of the Pompidou Group, together with Dutch experts of the non-profit organisation Friends of Pryluky and Vita Valens, a Ukrainian Foundation.

The results of this work, organised as part of the Programmatic Cooperation Framework (PCF) of the Council of Europe and the European Union, will be presented at two international conferences in Georgia (2016) and Moldova (2017) which will be organised in the framework of the PCF’s project “Criminal Justice Responses to Drug Dependent Prisoners”.
