On 14-15 December 2015, the Council of Europe in partnership with the Georgian National Communications Commission held the Internet Governance Forum – Human Rights with Regard to the Internet.

The Internet Governance Forum is an open multi-stakeholder platform which aims promoting the engagement of dialogue and allowing the major players to exchange views about the Internet, how it is governed as well as to share their expertise and practice, what are the main benefits and challenges facing consumers while using the internet.

During the two day forum the presentations was held by the experts of the Council of Europe and the representatives of the leading state and non-state organsiation such as the Georgian National Communications Commission, Data Exchange Agency, Personal Data Protection Inspector, Consumer Rights Public Defender’s Office, Institute for Development of Freedom of Information and the Charter of Journalistic Ethics.

 

GEORGIA: human rights and the internet

The event is organised within the framework of the joint CoE/EU Program “Protecting Internet Freedom through Legislation and Arrangements for Multi-stakeholder Dialogue”. The project was launched in January 2015 and aims to increase the compliance of national legal frameworks and policies with CoE standards on freedom of expression and the knowledge of relevant state authorities about Council of Europe Internet governance and human rights standards and related European Court of Human Rights case-law.
