Georgian judges increase their knowledge on Freedom of Expression international standards

On 1 – 2 June 2017 Council of Europe (CoE) and EU have organised a two-day training for judges on the subject of Freedom of Expression of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

The training was delivered by national and international consultants and explored the principles of Freedom of Expression at international level and examined the application of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in the Georgian context. As a result, the participants advanced knowledge on freedom of expression standards, including limitations under the ECHR in the case of hate speech.

The event was organised in the framework of the European Union – Council of Europe joint project “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and harmonisation of national legislation and judicial practice in Georgia in line with European standards”, being implemented under the EU-CoE Partnership for Good Governance.
