Mr. Markus Jaeger, the Deputy Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe for Ukraine and Ms. Olena Trapeznikova, Senior Project Officer of the EU/CoE Joint Project “Consolidation of Justice Sector Policy Development in Ukraine” held a meeting with Ms. Valentyna Simonenko, Head of the Council of Judges of Ukraine on 3 July 2015 in Kyiv.

During the meeting the issues related to reform of the judicial system were discussed and areas of further cooperation were determined.

Mr. Markus Jaeger has informed that the Project was launched recently and it is aimed at supporting the Ukrainian authorities in implementing the Justice Sector Reform Strategy for 2015 – 2020.

It was underlined, that the efforts of the Project will be also focused on expert support by the Council of Europe in order to facilitate the implementation of the CoE standards during the process of judicial reform.

Head of the Council of Judges of Ukraine has informed the representatives of the Project about the activities of the Constitutional Commission, current tasks and needs of the Council of Judges of Ukraine and provided proposals for implementation in the framework of the Work Plan of the Project.
