Former Jesuit College, Mstislav

Belarus has been actively working on the creation of the PTAs for five priority projects in the COMUS pilot town of Mstislav. These are scheduled for completion at the end of March 2017.  Among the priorities for Mstislav are the following:

1)Restoration of the Carmelite church and the unique frescoes of the 17th century, landscaping;

2) Restoration of buildings of the former Jesuit College, followed by an effective use for urban development;

3) Creating a Visitor and Resource Centre for the promotion of the town;

4) The restoration of the "Hermitage" hotel and the opening of a modern hotel;

5) Restoration of the building of the former men’s gymnasium and establishment of the Folklore (Public) School (training centre).

On 13 February 2017, during a PIU meeting in Mstislav, the first drafts of the PTAs were presented, as well as the problems and difficulties faced by the developers of these documents.

On the same day, Mr Tim Williams, Head of EU Programme “Culture and Creativity” held a lecture for local stakeholders including teachers and students of Mstislav building college. The lecture was devoted to the development of creative industries in Europe and on the territory of former Soviet Union countries. There were many very useful examples of creative business in different historic towns. Furthermore, Mr Williams explained about the opportunities of the Culture and Creativity programme for capacity building and the development of partnerships.
