Engagement and Campaigning workshops

On 15-16 May within the framework of the C4i Project the City of Amadora, Portugal, welcomed C4i project manager Gemma Pinyol and the project’s campaigning and engagement consultant Daniel de Torres. The C4i team introduced the project and participated in the Engagement & Campaigning workshop.

The agenda of the visit included a meeting between Ms President, Aldermen and the C4I Team, workshops aiming to present the project to the Local Social Network (CLAS) and to an initial identification of rumors and prevailing stereotypes in Amadora,  in close collaboration with local organizations and Municipality employees.

At the first working session, Plenary Session Nº 57 of the Local Council for Social Action of Amadora, the presentation of the Project took place. The participants, 43 local partner organizations and their 46 representatives, demonstrated awareness of the main objectives of the Project as well as Barcelona’s methodology for addressing rumours. There was an opportunity to clarify questions about the project and partners could exchange views on possible campaigns and dissemination tools at the local level (e.g.: Comic Festival, distribution of sweets with campaign symbols, intervention of various local partners).

The workshop of 15 May got together 11 local authorities with 12 representatives.  The next day’s workshop was attended by 6 local authorities with a total 20 representatives, mostly employees of the City of Amadora.

The two workshops allowed for the identification of rumors concerning the city of Amadora on specific aspects, positive (e.g.: good accessibility, Comic Festival) as well as negative (e.g.: violent city with many robberies, crime). Likewise, issues related to the immigrant population (e.g.: crime, violence and dependence on subsidies) were raised.
