Schools in Montenegro learn how to become places of lived democracy

Around 85 participants from 40 pilot schools, the Ministry of Education, the Bureau for Educational Services and other relevant institutions gathered at the introductory conference “Fostering a democratic culture through a whole school approach” that took place on 5-6 March 2020 in Podgorica.

The conference provided an opportunity for the existing and new pilot schools to understand the importance of applying appropriate teaching and learning methodology in learning about, through and for Democracy. Examples on how democratic competences can become part of everyday life in school, and on how teaching methodologies and the classroom atmosphere are key factors for schools to become places of lived democracy were showcased. Based on the good practices presented by prominent international experts, the pilot school members brainstormed for ideas for the small grants to be offered to civil society organisations during the project duration.
