A Memorandum on Co-operation between the Association of State Prosecutors of Montenegro and Association of State Prosecutors of Slovenia was signed in Ljubljana on 13 April. This document provides a framework for co-operation and joint work between two prosecution organisations, particularly in the context of addressing EU accession benchmarks.

The Memorandum is aimed at establishing and enhancing co-operation among the two associations with a view of facilitating the exchange of knowledge and professional experience among prosecutors from Montenegro and Slovenia, and promoting high standards and principles related to the autonomy, professionalism and accountability of prosecutors.

The Memorandum envisages different modalities of co-operation and partnership which will be beneficial for prosecutors from Montenegro and Slovenia, in terms of capacity building and education, participation in joint projects and mutual support in persecuting the perpetrators of crime and protecting the victims, in line with international and European standards. The consolidated action by the two associations will have a positive impact on the quality of prosecutorial services and will contribute to greater prosecutors’ professionalism and accountability.

The signing of the Memorandum of Co-operation was supported through the action "Strengthening accountability of the judicial system and enhancing protection of victims' rights in Montenegro” which is implemented as part of the joint European Union and the Council of Europe programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye".
