Finalising the 3rd assessment report of the functioning of the judicial system in Kosovo*

The recommendations and results of 3rd assessment report focusing on the functioning of the judicial system in Kosovo, were detailed and discussed in a videoconference organized between the representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the Action “Strengthening the Quality and Efficiency of Justice in Kosovo” (KOSEJII). CEPEJ coordinators in the Ministry of Justice had the opportunity to discuss with the CEPEJ international expert Julinda Beqiraj on the results of the assessment report tracking the functioning of the judicial system in Kosovo*, and in the same time, sharing the “know how” to collect and analyse the required data. The report expeected to be finalised on June, examines the evolution of the efficiency of the activity of courts and prosecution services from 2014 to 2018.

With the support of the joint EU and Council of Europe KoSEJ II Action, this third assessment exercise has been conducted by the Ministry of Justice, with the long-term objective to establish a sustainable process of data collection and analysis. The CEPEJ coordinators supported the process of data collection from the relevant institutions and were directly involved in preparing the analysis, thus receiving firsthand experience conducting an assessment exercise from beginning to end. In addition, detailed guidelines are being prepared by the KoSEJ II Action to share with all the beneficiaries the technical knowledge on how to collect and analyse the required data.

This activity is organised by the KoSEJ II Action “Strengthening the Quality and Efficiency of Justice in Kosovo”, which is part of the European Union/Council of Europe joint programme Horizontal Facility of the Western Balkans and Turkey II co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
