The way we teach these days has substantially changed in the last few months. Even though teaching from the comfort of one’s home might seem easy, both teachers and students face certain difficulties and challenges. Maintaining and fostering a democratic school culture is equally important in an online teaching environment and innovative approaches are more important than ever.

In order to provide teachers with practical, hands-on materials that are relevant for the current situation, a manual on teaching the competences for democratic culture online was developed as part of the Quality Education for All action in Bosnia and Herzegovina and translated into Serbian. This useful resource consists of 4 chapters dedicated to values, attitudes, skills and knowledge and critical understanding offering different ideas for practical activities with students that will help foster their competences for democratic culture.

The handbook can be also combined with a set of new lessons plan developed by the Council of Europe. Lesson plans on topics such as Cyberbullying, Solidarity, Fake News are extremely relevant during the unprecedented situation the society is going through. These lessons plans are also available in Serbian. More useful resources can be found on the COVID-19 Education website of the Council of Europe.

The action on “Quality education for all” is implemented under the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022“.
