As the restrictive measures introduced in response to the COVID-19 crisis become less stringent, it is crucially important to evaluate progress and decide on the next steps in action implementation. The work done within the action should always be in line with the needs and expectations of action’s partners in Serbia, and regular consultation with the action steering committee is a means to ensure that these activities are on track. In order to achieve this whilst applying all recommendations on physical distancing, on 7 May 2020 the action on “Quality education for all – Serbia” organised the second steering committee meeting using alternative methods - in a virtual meeting hall.

The meeting was attended by 12 members of the Steering Committee and the project team and was opened by Tobias Flessenkemper, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade and Sarah Keating, Head of the Co-operation and Capacity Building Division in the Council of Europe’s Education Department.

It was presented what has been done, what was introduced as a rapid response to the crisis and how the action activities are seen in the coming months as the new situation develops. The meeting was very productive, and action’s partners and friends expressed their views and expressed words of appreciation for the work that is being done. They also stressed that the organisation of such a meeting online was highly commendable. The action, after all, did not stop. It continued to work with the schools and with partners to deliver what had been agreed.

The plan for the coming months is taking shape and together with the stakeholders from the Ministry of Education, Institutes for Education and other professionals, the action will maintain the momentum and provide support in times when education is more important than ever before.

The action on “Quality education for all” is implemented under the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022“.
