Media Literacy workshops in Kosovo*

Key concepts of media literacy, journalism and digital citizenship were shared and discussed with high school students in the municipalities of Gjilan/Gnjilane and Prishtina/Pristina, in two workshops organized in the framework of the project “Freedom of Expression and Media in Kosovo*”.
Vitor Tome, a Council of Europe media literacy expert, thoroughly explained to young students tools and approaches on how to analyse, deconstruct and disseminate media messages, while receiving them or creating them for different audiences.

The workshops were combined various materials that provoked students’ thoughts who actively participated in both discussions. During the workshops, the students had the opportunity to develop their own ideas and school projects on Media Literacy and presenting and discussing them among other students, professors and the Council of Europe expert.

These events were organised in cooperation with the media regulatory authority of Kosovo, Independent Media Commission.
This Action, part of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II”, a co-operation initiative co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, will continue to promote freedom of expression and freedom of the media in Kosovo* in line with Council of Europe standards.
