Strengthening legal advocacy on women’s rights in Türkiye

Legal experts and civil society representatives from nine cities in Türkiye are now equipped with key legal strategies to effectively use litigation as a tool to protect and promote women’s rights.

This achievement follows an online training session held on 25 October 2024, attended by 13 participants (10 women, 3 men) to deepen their knowledge of strategic litigation, focusing specifically on improving access to justice for women in vulnerable situations. The session provided in-depth insights into key legal strategies, while practical examples were presented from Turkish landmark cases to illustrate how strategic litigation can drive systemic change. A dynamic discussion followed, with participants exploring ways to apply these strategies in real-world contexts.

The event was part of a broader initiative to empower legal professionals and civil society actors to utilise litigation as a tool for promoting and protecting women's rights in Türkiye.

The event was organised by the joint European Union/Council of Europe action “Fostering women’s access to justice in Türkiye* and the European Union/Council of Europe Joint Programme “Promoting good governance and Roma empowerment at local level (ROMACTED II)”.

The action “Fostering women's access to justice in Türkiye” is part of the European Union and Council of Europe’s joint programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye“.
