The Recommendation CM/Rec(2022)4 of the Committee of Ministers to member States on promoting a favourable environment for quality journalism in the digital aims to achieve greater unity between its members for the purpose of safeguarding and promoting common policies and standards related to freedom of expression. Available now in Macedonian language it reaffirms that the right to freedom of expression constitute cornerstones of democracy, and that journalists seeking to provide accurate and reliable information in accordance with the standards of the profession enjoy the highest protection under Article 10 of the Convention.
This Recommendation is relevant for the work under the joint EU and Council of Europe action on ‘Protecting freedom of expression and of the media in North Macedonia’ (PRO-FREX), as well as for the process of digital transformation of the media that has created important opportunities while at the same time creating challenges for media and communication that shift towards increasingly digital, mobile and social media environment.
Determined to promote a favourable environment for quality journalism in the digital age, this Recommendation provides valuable information for governments and all media stakeholders.
