JUSTROM Italy held a series of three online trainings intended to provide prospective trainers and collaborators with an overview of JUSTROM project’s accumulated experience and practices and Council of Europe standards for the protection and enforcement of human rights. More specifically, the goal of these webinars was to train professionals from different sectors on access to justice for Roma, Sinti and Caminanti women in Italy. To this end, the trainings have included practical information on combating violence against women and related issues, trafficking in human beings, statelessness, and legal status of Roma, with a special focus on empowering Roma women.
The first webinar took place on 19 May 2021 and it was centred on the topic of violence against women and girls. It encompassed an historical and cultural analysis of the origin of violence and prejudice against women, provided by GREVIO second rotating Vice-President Ms. Simona Lanzoni, as well as a discussion on access to justice and the experience of JUSTROM in Italy in working with Roma women in the field, and the challenges encountered in securing legal support to their beneficiaries.
The second online Training of Trainers organized by JUSTROM in Italy took place on 24 May 2021. The event was moderated by JUSTROM National Coordinator in Italy, Maja Bova. The training was attended by 14 participants and specifically tackled the key topics of, inter alia, legal status, citizenship and statelessness.
The third event of the series took place on 28 May 2021 and provided prospective trainers with a comprehensive overview on trafficking in human beings, especially women and girls, and on access to justice for victims of trafficking.
This series of events was attended by experts from JUSTROOM pool of trainers, who will further engage in delivering cascading trainings to various groups of professionals in Italy, on the topics of their expertise.
