The Conference on domestic and regional perspectives and challenges in alternative dispute resolution will be organised under the joint European Union and Council of Europe action “Accountability and professionalism of the judicial system in Montenegro” on Friday, 3 December 2021, in Podgorica.

Introductory remarks will be given by:

• Lilja Gretarsdottir, Head of Co-operation Programmes Division, Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law, Council of Europe
• Riccardo Serri, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro
• Evgenia Giakomoupoulou, Head of Operations, Council of Europe Programme Office in Podgorica
• Marina Lutovac, Director of the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution in Montenegro

The conference will bring together mediation professionals and experts from the country, the Western Balkan region and the European Union, as well as representatives of the Council of Europe, European Union, judiciary, the executive branch, civil society and academia, on the occasion of celebrating the Week of Mediation in Montenegro, which was established in 2019.

It will provide a forum for exchange of experiences, lessons learned, challenges and good practices, as well as for promotion of the use of alternative dispute resolutions. The new Law on Alternative Dispute Resolution in Montenegro, adopted in July 2020 will be presented and discussed among mediation practitioners.

The conference will begin on 3 December 2021 at 10:00 at the hotel Hilton in Podgorica. The opening panel of the conference is open to media. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

All precautionary measures related to COVID-19 will be respected.

The conference will be organised within the action “Accountability and professionalism of the judicial system in Montenegro”, a part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”, implemented by the Council of Europe.
