As part of the South Programme II, the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) visited Tunis on 7 and 8 March 2016. This mission purposed to review the status of cooperation with the pilot courts of the CEPEJ, partners South II Programme, through a series of meetings with senior Tunisian officials.
CEPEJ representatives had meetings with the Minister of Justice, the Inspector General of the same ministry and representatives from three pilot courts (the Court of Cassation and First Instance Courts of Tunis and Zaghouan). On this occasion, the Minister stressed the importance of CEPEJ support and pilot projects to improve the management of legal proceedings and the functioning of courts in Tunisia, and the interest that these projects have for the judiciary, judges, lawyers and litigants.
With the aim of continuing to ensure proper coordination of its activities in Tunisia, the CEPEJ exchanged with donors and representatives of similar ongoing and future cooperation programme and projects, among which the European Union funded programmes "Support the Reform of Justice (PARJ)" and "Twinning", as well as the programmes of the International Legal Assistance Consortium (ILAC) and the Bureau of the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement of the U.S. Department of State.
The organisation of training courses with the support of the CEPEJ was also discussed with the Higher Institute of the Judiciary of Tunisia.
