- The conference, titled “Hate speech in public discourse,” will take place on Wednesday, 20 September 2023, starting at 09:30, at the Swiss Diamond Hotel in Pristina, as part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe initiative “Combating Discrimination and Hatred.”
The opening remarks will be delivered by Frank Power, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Pristina, and Tomáš Szunyog, Head of the EU Office in Kosovo/EU Special Representative.
These will be followed by keynote speeches from:
- Glauk Konjufca, Speaker of the Assembly
- Naim Qelaj, Ombudsperson
- Marigona Shabiu, Executive Director at Youth Initiative for Human Rights
Two panel discussions will follow, with the first involving civil society groups and the second bringing together public representatives from various political parties, discussing different experiences and responses to hate speech. The conference, organised in close co-operation with civil society partners, will address hate speech at the societal level, particularly when targeted towards minority communities or vulnerable groups.
The event is open to the media.
Simultaneous interpretation into English, Albanian and Serbian will be provided.
The action "Combating Discrimination and Hatred" is part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye”.
