A workshop dedicated to the effective implementation of international restrictive measures, took place in Tirana on 19 December 2019. More than 30 representatives from Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Albanian Export Control Authority, Bank of Albania, General Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering, Albanian Banking Association and commercial banks, increased their awareness on the recently adopted law “On international restrictive measures” and on international standards regarding the legal framework and best practices on the effective implementation of financing and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

Participants had the opportunity to discuss various topics covering financing of proliferation standards, proliferation financing typologies, national coordination, the United Nations Security Council Resolutions framework, supervision, outreach and guidance for the private sector. The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs presented the workplan approved by the Ministry following the establishment of the inter-institutional working group for the preparation of four bylaws which will allow for an effective implementation of targeted financial sanctions related to proliferation of weapons of mass destructions.

The workshop was organised within the European Union and Council of Europe’s Horizontal Facility Project “Action against Economic Crime in Albania”.
