On 16-17 April and 19-20 April 2018 the European Union and the Council of Europe, in co-operation with the Legal Aid Service (LAS) in Georgia, organised a training on “Human Rights Protection at Pre-Trial Stage” for Kutaisi and Tbilisi lawyers of the Legal Aid Service.

The purpose of the training was to increase awareness of LAS lawyers on European standards for investigative actions and preventive measures. Participants had an opportunity to discuss European Court of Human Rights cases related to Right to life, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment, Right to Fair Trial, Private and Family Life, Right to Liberty and Security.

As a result of the training up to 40 participants from Tbilisi and the regional office of the Legal Aid Service got acquainted with the Court's standards concerning pre-trial investigation activities.

The event was organised in the framework of the European Union – Council of Europe joint project “Strengthening the Application of the European Convention on Human Rights in Georgia”, within the EU-CoE Partnership for Good Governance.
