Training in Belarus for education professionals on human rights education and on competences for democratic culture

35 representatives of the National Institute of Education and other leading educational institutions participated in a 4-day training course on the main principles of the Education for Democratic Citizenship/Human Rights Education at the policy level and on the Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture. The workshop took place in Minsk, Republic of Belarus on 13-18 March and it was organised in the context of the CoE/EU Programme “Promoting Human Rights Education and Democratic Citizenship in Eastern Partnership countries”.

This is the first activity of a series of educational events that will be carried out by the Council of Europe in co-operation with the National Institute of Education of the Republic of Belarus. The key objective is to strengthen the capacity of decision makers, researchers and teacher trainers to support schools in creating a democratic environment and to support learners in acquiring competences for democratic culture.

The next event is a visit of educational professionals from the National Institute of Education from the Republic of Armenia to share good practices, compare and discuss challenges and elaborate plans of co-operation in the field of Education for Democratic Citizenship/Human Rights Education.
